Model Cities Event by The Manila Times

 This May 11, 2017, 8:30am – 3:30pm, The Manila Times, a media partner of Today Online, organized “The Philippine Model Cities: Beyond the Most Liveable Urban Centers” at the one and only ballroom of the New World Manila Bay Hotel (formerly Hyatt Hotel) located in Pedro Gil corner M. H. Del Pilar, Manila at Ermita area.
The morning segment involved 4 distinguished experts as speakers. The speakers in order and their respective topics are: (first speaker) Architect Felino Palafox, Managing Partner and Founder of Palafox Associates talking about “Cities of the Future: Philippines at 500, 2021 and Beyond.” (second speaker) Vickram Cuttaree, Program Leader of Sustainable Development for the Philippines and also connected with World Bank Philippines talking about “Competitive, Inclusive and Sustainable Cities”. (third speaker) Attorney Lea Roque, Principal and Head of Tax Advisory & Compliance of P&A Grant Thornton, talking on “Ease of Doing Business”. (final & 4th speaker) Michael McCullough, Managing Director of KMC MAG Group talking about “Manila Green Building Trends and Market Outlook”.

After the 4 distinguished speakers delivered their talks, the entire audience went on a lunch break. The following was served for lunch: freshly baked bread and rolls, butter; Pumpkin soup, almond, cream; beef pot roast, root vegetables, steamed rice; (desert) mango pavlova.

The afternoon segment after the lunch break was allotted for awarding various exemplary model cities who are outstanding in various aspects of a model city.

The Manila Times awarded the “Safe Haven Award” to Sta. Rosa City. The Manila Times proceeded in awarding the Environment Friendly Award for Batangas City. The next award went to San Fernando for the Business Friendly Award. The next award to be awarded was the Retirement Haven Award which went to Tagaytay City.

Further awards came: Parañaque for the Education Hub Award. Succeeding awards was on the Social Service Oriented Award for Youth Development and Women Empowerment which went to Quezon City. A second winner to the same award went to Zamboanga City.

Further awards:
Wealth Center Award – Mandaluyong City.
Livelihood & Employment Haven Award – Naga City.
The Road & Home Award – General Santos City.
The Emergency / Disaster Management Award – Laoag City.
The Most Promising Municipality Award – Nunungan, Lanao Del Norte (municipiality).

Tourism Hub Award: Davao City.

The wait is over. Finally, the grandest and biggest award --- “THE TOP PHILIPPINE MODEL AWARD” --- went to Bacolod City.
