Happy National Flag Day!

  
On March 6, 1965, Presidential Proclamation No. 374 was issued declaring May 28 as National Flag Day to commemorate the date the national emblem was first unfurled after the Philippine Revolutionary Army defeated the Spanish fores in the Battle at Alapan, Imus, Cavite in 1898. On May 23, 1994, Executive Order No. 79 was issued extending the period of celebrating National Flag Day from May 28 to June 12. All Filipinos are encouraged to display the Philippine flag in all offices, agencies and instruments of government, business establishments, schools, and private homes throughout this period.

May 28 commemorates the day in 1898 when the flag was first carried into Battle of Alapan during the Philippine Revolution. The celebration starts from May 28 until June 12, the Philippine Independence Day. All Filipinos are then encouraged to display the Philippine flag in all offices, agencies and instruments of government, business establishments, schools and private homes throughout this period provided that they abide the law governing its proper use and display, as mandated by Republic Act 8491 (The Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines). Jeannie Javelosa, curator of the Yuchengco Museum, will give an overview of trends in Philippine contemporary art--from the Modernist tradition of the 1950s to the present day--focusing on the innovations of Filipino artists in technique, style, and material as they broke away from the previous generation. Jeannie Javelosa is a writer and visual art: she is an awarded printmaker and editor of the landmark book Art Philippines. She was an active art critic in the late 1980s and 1990s, with a weekly column in a daily newspaper and published articles in art journals and magazines in Southeast Asia and Australia.

Filipino Bloggers Hub: A Simple Acquaintance Party

   In the cyber world where all bloggers are moving-in has become more challenging due to different trends that have been born from time to time in every click and tick of their finger on the mouse. As the blogger pursue their passion, they tend to produce more effective write-ups that are based on their experiences, observation and even with their own opinion.

    Today, blogging becomes a good portal of advertisement and online promotion because it can give a huge impact and easy to access information upon clicking the publish button. In just one click, everything went to life as it was being shared and like by others instantly upon uploaded. 

      Given that bloggers exist every minute and seconds in every social-networking site as well as in the blogging flat form. While giving the readers and other people to have the latest updates as well as entertainment in their web sites or blog sites. But wait a minute; did all bloggers who read other sites blog knew the author personally or acquaintance? I think, not! 
    Perhaps, some know each other while others tend to get intimidated or something as they see each other in different places. Why? Maybe because they never get a chance to be introduce to each other.

    Moreover, the blogosphere in the Philippines is just a small piece of the universal blogosphere. Where is so impossible to know the person one by one in a particular websites or blog site?  And so, bloggers created an event that we called “Filipino Bloggers Hub Party” to get a chance to see, meet and know the person behind in every blog that we read, follow and subscribe to. 

    On the 19^th of May 2012, 1:00pm at the Central Colleges of the Philippines, bloggers around the Metro will gather to have a simple acquaintance party with full of surprises, giveaways, fun games and raffles.  This is the chance to meet and know other bloggers, and this is the day that all bloggers will unite and promise to continue what started intelligently as to give people good, and balance information that people want to know.

One Less Queue, Yes!

      Manila Internaitonal Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Jose Angel Honrado today signed a Memorandum of Agreement with domestic carriers, for the integration of the domestic terminal fee in the airline ticket effective August 1, 2012. 

      Airline signatories are Inigo Zobel of Air Philippines Corp. Lance Gokongwei of Cebu Air Inc. Ramon Ang of Philippine Airlines Inc. Ramon Guico III of WCIC Aviation Co. and Alredo Yao of Zest Airways Inc.

     "We thank our airline partners in the endeavor for their cooperation. We offer this the milestone to the travelling public. This is a reality for all of us" said Jose Angel Honrado, MIAA.

      The MOA formalizes the agreement reached between the MIAA, DOTC and the Domestic Airline Companies for the integration of the P200.00 terminal fee in the airline ticket, making it part of the total cost of airfare, come August this year. However, holder of tickets bought prior to this date, will still have to pay the P200.00 terminal fee.

      The Integration will benefit millions of passengers, who travel via NAIA Terminals 2, 3 and 4. For the year 2011, total outbound domestic passengers that passed through these terminals hit 8.43 million as against 7.37M in 2010. For 2013, MIAA projects some 11.3M outbound passengers to pass through the three terminals.

Asian Film Festival - Free Admission!

Shangri-La Plaza, together with the Asia Society Philippine Foundation Inc. and the Film Development Council of the Philippines, unveils the rich cultures of Asia and their compelling stories as it plays host to the first-ever Asian Film Festival, themed Asia as Our Society, to be held from May 17 to 21 at the Shang Cineplex. 

Film entries from China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and of course, the Philippines, will be screened during the festival.

The festival opens with a film from the Philippines, Dinig Sana Kita, which screens on May 17, 7:30pm. Witness the unfolding of a one-of-a-kind love story between a deaf boy and a troubled rocker girl in this 2009 drama. The film Halaw, screens on May 21, 8pm, narrates the adventure of an illiterate Badjao and his daughter as they illegally cross the border of Malaysia and the Philippines.

Samsara, A Film On Spiritual Love..

In the morning, catch Professor José Alain Austria, former Chair of the Social Sciences Area of De La Salle – College of St. Benilde, at the BUDDHIST LECTURE SERIES 2012 as he presents the similariti...es between the Kuan Yin figure of Chinese Buddhism and the Virgin Mary of Filipino Catholicism in a talk entitled THE KUAN YIN-MARY CONNECTION: ARCHETYPES OF MERCY IN FILIPINO COLONIAL RELIGIOUS ART AND FOLKLORE. Prof. Austria will also present a deconstruction of a 17th century legend from Batangas which seems to merge the identities of the two holy figures. The lecture will be held at the Prajna Lecture Hall located at the 5th floor. Registration starts at 9:30 am.

   In the after noon, join the DHARMA CINEMA CIRCLE for a FREE film screening of SAMSARA, the debut feature of critically-acclaimed director Pan Nalin.
