In a recent statement, Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) highlighted the importance of partnering with local industries and institutions to enhance the adoption and commercialization of DOST-funded technologies. Solidum stressed that successful implementation of research and development (R&D) projects relies on collaboration with local governments, academic institutions, and industry players.
During the 2024 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) in Western Visayas, Solidum discussed the necessity of establishing standards and quality control to make local R&D products competitive both domestically and internationally. He also announced the launch of the Antique NatDyes Hub, a collaborative project aimed at revitalizing traditional textile industries through natural dyeing techniques and advanced handloom machinery. This initiative is expected to boost local economies and create opportunities for communities.
The RSTW, held from 22-24 August 2024, at the University of Antique-Sibalom Campus, showcased various homegrown technologies and projects designed to contribute to the country’s green and blue economy.
