With the support from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, ULI Hong Kong has completed the installation of its first local biodiversity park at The Loop at Devon House in Quarry Bay. Special thanks to Swire Properties for this collaborative effort to activate an underutilised urban open space for sustainability and community amenity.
This project tells a story about the importance of biodiversity and urban greening in particular. A wide variety of native plant species were installed at the site, housed in over 20 custom-built upcycled timber planters that also provide seating and were built from local felled trees. Local workers and residents who visit the site can learn about the project and the planted species from signage and the project website. This is ULI Asia Pacific’s first initiative in leveraging interactive space to increase environmental awareness and how a wider community can incorporate sustainable practices into their business operations.
ULI Asia Pacific is very pleased to receive this grant from Bank of America in 2021 and 2022. The ULI and volunteer team have applied research, case studies, workshops and now this pilot project to focus on the importance of urban greening to improve environmental and social sustainability in a high-density city like Hong Kong. We are looking forward to continuing to work with our partners to improve our urban environments and make real impacts on our cities.
