Socialist labor leader presidential candidate Leody de Guzman and his vice-presidential runningmate intellectual Dr. Walden Bello on Feb. 8, 2022 spoke at the Pandesal Forum of 83-year-old Kamuning Bakery Café in Quezon City about their bold socio-economic, political, environmental, labor, foreign relations, public health and other reform advocacies.
Among the varied issues discussed included the proposed one-time wealth tax of 20% on the country’s top 250 richest families to fund comprehensive socio-economic recovery program, implementing genuine agrarian reform nationwide, better labor and public health services like higher minimum wage of P750 per day & ending contractualization, bigger support for micro small & medium enterprises (MSMEs), protecting rural farmers from too much agriculture imports and amending the controversial rice tariffication law, uphold nationalist economics & ending neoliberal economic policies like stopping automatic debt servicing from national budget but balancing needs for social services, call for demilitarization of West Philippine Sea & South China Sea by USA to take out their naval forces so that China can also be asked to withdraw its defense installations in this area and strengthening ASEAN solidarity to uphold demilitarized peace in the seas, etc.
