Precious Pelikula Turns Favorite Novels from Print to Reel

Manila City - Precious Hearts Romances launches first Precious Pelikula Filmmaking Contest that aims to breathe life to well-loved pocketbook stories through the eyes of six talented filmmakers.

In April 2016, Precious Pages Corp., the publisher of Precious Hearts Romances, called on amateur filmmakers nationwide to participate in this momentous project. A total of 40 applicants, from students to film enthusiasts, sent in their portfolio in the hopes of being able to enter the competition.
Ten applicants were shortlisted. They chose from a selection of PHR titles on which they formulated a film concept as out-of-the-box as they could while still maintaining the romantic personality that Precious Hearts Romances has embodied. From their pitches, five applicants and a ’wild card’ were granted a much-coveted spot.

They are:

• Marco Mata of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila - Fallin’ For You by Heide Colette;
• Ian Abaya of Asian Pacific Film Institute - Her Own Brand of Hero by Sofia;
• Paolo Pascual of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila - Angel Bautista’s Dreams CafĂ© 4: Dream Master;
• Miguel Potestades of Collosus Films - Mga Apo Ni Rustica: The Girl in His Arms by Rose Tan;
• Richmond Cadsawan of Far Eastern University - Me, Myself and Peregrine by Jamie Black; and
• Carl Ruiz of De La Salle College of St. Benilde - Kensi’s Unconventional Love.

Each were given a grant to produce their respective films. A special screening is done on September 3, 2016, 2pm, at SM Manila Cinema 4 where their films are screened as the viewers take part in a live voting for their film of choice.

The top three films will be awarded at the Manila International Book Fair on September 18, 2016. Winners will also receive the following cash prizes:

• 1st place - P100,000.00
• 2nd place - P50,000.00
• 3rd place - P25,000.00

Days of Creation by Marc Escalona Gaba

Galleria Duemila proudly presents Days of Creation, a solo exhibition by Marc Gaba. The works in Days of Creation rose out of the artist’s inexplicable desire to revisit the church in 2015, which led to analytic readings of the first chapter of the Bible. Unlike the second chapter which focuses on the so-called fall of man, the first chapter is pure magic--magic that is according to Giorgio Agamben, the key premise of happiness.

In Gaba’s readings, he was struck by how the first chapter consistently reimagines the creation of difference, of delineations, and that read as an architectural program, seems to prefigure God’s eventual invisibility, if not the curious absence. At this day and age, it is almost ridiculous to believe that the world was created—and yet, to walk down any street in the city while entertaining the idea imbues everything from lowly shrubs to sleeping beggar-children with a large sacredness that feels like an all-encompassing love. Everything was created. Gaba’s credo is that whether or not creationism is true, the world is an unfinished work of creation, and as long as we exist, we are still creating the world.

14th Consumer Coping Behavior Survey Presentation 2016

This 14th Consumer Coping Behavior Survey is a nationwide survey of consumers regarding their recurring purchases of more than a hundred product and service categories. This survey started in 1984 covering 4 urban centers. It was only since 2008 when it became nationwide.
This survey series has served the needs of small, medium and large businesses to identify consumer markets’ unserved and underserved needs. Unserved needs are where the business-growing opportunites in the 3-digit revenue growth can be found. The revenue growth promise in the underserved needs is in the more than 50%.
The survey’s analyzed data brings to the Conference’s attending businessmen where and how to tap the true sources for growing their business in any of the more than 100 product and service categories. The 2008, 2012 to 2015 survey waves provide a 5-year time series data for each product and service category identifying its upward, downward or steady trending.
