STARTUP GETS BEDS TO WATCH OVER YOUR KIDS

By turning every bed into a smart bed, Nana helps answer the question on every parent’s mind – “is my child alright?”
Manila, June 2015 – For most parents, watching footage of their motionless babies sleeping or hearing the deafening silence of their baby monitors does little to allay their fears. A tech startup wants to change this with Nana, their product that promises to go beyond monitoring to help anxious parents in the Philippines better protect their little ones.
Through a thin, contactless sensor mat that slips under a child’s mattress, Nana turns any bed into a smart bed, monitoring the child’s breathing, heart rate, sleep patterns, and environment unobtrusively. It not only alerts parents when their toddlers require immediate attention, but also gives parents deeper insights into their wellbeing.

The Philippines – The “Guuud” Strategy to Kickstarting Market Expansion Initiatives in Southeast Asia

Manila (June 2, 2015) – “Guuud”, a Singapore-based startup unveils its app for the very first time today – not in Singapore but at A Space Manila, a co-working facility in the Philippines. The startup is part of a delegation participating in a media and customer event hosted by The Co-Foundry, a Singaporean venture accelerator. Till now, founders of Guuud were adament about keeping the tracking and comparison app under wraps, choosing the Philippines as the first country to launch it.

“With a huge base of highly sophisticated and demanding consumers, we always believed that the Philippines will make a great launching pad for Guuud. The team knows that if we are able to satisfy a market of users who are keen to experiment with technology, we will be able to create a compelling and robust app. It is a no-brainer for Guuud to choose the Philippines to test our app before expanding overseas to other markets”, attests Pengfei Xing, founder of Guuud.

Indeed, with the median age in the Philippines at 24 and an emerging population of savvy consumers who are already familiar with e-commerce and price comparison websites, Filipinos fall squarely into Guuud’s target audience.

Guuud is a web and mobile platform that will enable real-time, continuous monitoring of an array of interest areas from new product launches to upcoming events and celebrity gossip. The version launched today however, will first focus on letting its users track the price changes of items in popular e-commerce stores in the Philippines, for instance Kimstore, Zalora and OLX . Yet, this is no mere feat, with Guuud already supporting 16 major e-commerce sites frequented by Filipinos. It also has an aggressive target to increase its coverage to 1000 sites by early 2016; and will allows users to vote for websites they want to track.

                         Step 1                                                  Step 2                                                Step 3
Select items for price tracking                 Set the desired price point                     Receive an alert when item
                                                                                                                                       reaches desired price point

A 25 year old marketing executive from Manila who participated in the user trial shares her experience,

“I love searching for good deals online, so I found Guuud helpful since I don’t have to check multiple sites whenever I am free to see if the items I want to buy are on sale. I just need to wait for the alerts, and everything is accessible on a single platform. Guuud has definitely made me a more effective shopper!”

Accurate tracking and alerts are achieved using Guuud’s proprietary infrastructure comprising of a massive automatic crawling engine, categorization and tagging, as well as image recogition algorithms.

The large amounts of data collected can serve as market intelligence to online merchants. Through an aggregation of consumers’ desired price points for instance, merchants are able to determine optimum retail prices for their products. This knowledge in turn, helps merchants to engage in more accurate sales forecasting, execute more effective price-driven promotions and even plan future product offerings.

According to a Nielsen study, 60 percent of Filipino respondents shared that they would less likely try a new product during challenging economic times. It is no doubt that Guuud plays a critical role in removing this barrier and bridging price-sensitive consumers with their preferred merchants to facilitate the sale.
