Dulce, Isay Alvarez, Sheila Francisco, Karylle lead 'Musikal'

In celebration of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ 45th anniversary, around 200 theater actors performed for what may be called the “biggest gathering of theater superstars” in history – “Musikal,” held last Friday (September 5) and Saturday (September 6) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The celebration was led by theater superstars Isay Alvarez and Robert Sena, Sheila Francisco, Dulce, and Karylle, who did not take her spot in the front line during the All-Star Finale.

Karylle’s gesture was lauded by some people who noted her humility.

A guest, who refused to be named, said, “Karylle obviously had a spot in the first row, but she was humble enough to stick to her place beside theater heavyweights like Isay, Robert, Dulce, and Sheila. Aside from her excellent performance that night, her humility and character shone during ‘Musikal.’”

Karylle performed lead roles in stage musicals like “The Little Mermaid,” “West Side Story,” and “Cinderella,” and reprised her Sita role from last year’s successful staging of Ballet Philippines’ “Rama Hari.”

“Musikal” opened with the overture by The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra with Gerard Salonga.

Know Your Liver and Live A Long And Well Life With Silymarin

We only live once, so we should live it well. Dra Katherine Arupo Reyes, of Philippine “College of Occupational Medicine explained clearly how our lifestyle affects our health.

She presented the importance of our liver. Many people live with liver diseases for a long time without ever knowing it.

Since it is the largest glandular organ in the body and performs many vital functions to keep the body from toxins and harmful substances. It is a “silent organ” that can be damaged without any signal or symptom.

In 2010, Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease or NAFLD prevalence in the Philippines is 17.2 percent. It is an abnormal accumulation of fat in the liver cells. It can be harmless, but sometimes it may cause the liver to swell. It is a common condition. The risk factors of NAFLD include Diabetes, Obesity, High fat diet, and certain medicines. Fatty liver is aid to be prevalent in industrialized countries. With the introduction of westernized lifestyle and increasing obesity in the Asis-Pacific region. The prevalence of NAFLD has increased  over the past two decades

Sylymarin is a unique flavonoid complex- containing silydiamin, sily chrisin and silybin, - that id derived from the mild thistle, which carries the scientific name Sylibum Mariamum, has been gaining popularity in the mainstream culture and fitness scene and it is mainly used for liver disorders. It is the number one recommended plant extract for the protection and detoxification of vital live functions.
Some of the metabolic functions of liver are maintenance of blood sugar level conversion of fat and fatty acids to energy, protein metabolism and synthesis, production of bile for fat break down, production of triglyceride, cholesterol and breakdown of toxic substances And storage of vitamins and minerals (A,D, B12, and Iron)

To  mange NAFLD, Dra Arupo-Reyes recommends the use of liver protective supplements, lifestyle  modification such as regular exercise, eating in moderation and avoiding fatty foods, soda and sugar.
“The first line of treatment would depend on what is the cause. If the cause is obesity, definitely weight reduction and exercise should be recommended. Sometimes we will refer them to nutritionists for proper guidance. If he/she has fatty liver, SGPT and the SGOT is high, that’s the time we give hepatotrophic agents for whatever its worth”, said Dr. Jane Ricaforte-Campos, an internist-gastroenterologist.

Thus knowing this, could lead us to a longer and better liver and life, as should be.
