      Who could resist a challenge such as this, the Beef Gyudon Eating Challenge, i could have easily won and first to finish off that 3 delicious bowls of Yoshinoya's beef goudon, versus  9 other challengers (you bet!), have i not been tempted to savor that rich tasting flavor of beef in every bowl of it.      Yoshinoya’s popular Beef Gyudon Eating Contest is now on its 4th year, and expect more and more beef gyudon lovers to flock to Yoshinoya stores to join in this exciting gastronomic challenge

     Yoshinoya, the country’s most popular fast-food chain that specializes in all-time favorite Japanese culinary fare, first held its beef eating contest last 2008 at its SM Megamall branch, then at the SM Mall of Asia Activity Center the following year.
    This year, the challenge will still be nothing short of exciting, with more participants expected to sign up for the contest.

     Composed of two challenges, the contest is open to all male and female participants 18 years old and above. Qualifying Rounds will be held Monday through Friday at all Yoshinoya stores at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and then at 6 pm and 7 pm from January 21 up to February 15, 2013.

To join, simply pay P199 at the counter, fill out the registration form and sign a health and release waiver. Customer must also present a valid ID (School ID, Company ID, Driver’s License, SSS ID, GSIS ID, NBI Clearance, Postal ID, Voters ID, or Passport) to the store manager.

   For the qualifying round the beef bowls should be consumed in the store. The customer who finishes the most number of bowls or who has the least amount of leftover food in 5 minutes wins the challenge of the day.  The names of the four (4) fastest challengers will be on display at each store’s Leader Board and will be updated every time a new record is set.
     After the weekly qualifying rounds, all qualified participants will be notified via phone call or email and are automatically entered in the grand finals, which will be held on February 23, 2013, 1 pm, at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City.

      During the final match, all finalists will compete by eating the most number of bowls in 15 minutes. The top three (3) finalists with the most number of bowls consumed and the least weight left after 15 minutes will be declared winners of the Yoshinoya Beef Gyudon eating challenge.

First place winner will receive P100,000, second placer gets P50,000 while the  third placer takes home P25,000. Non-winners will each be given consolation prizes of P2,000 worth of Yoshinoya gift certificates.

IBALONG:

In the midst of a great war between mortals and monsters, a serpentine creature falls for a man, leading to the birth of a new civilization.

Tanghalang Pilipino caps its 26th season with a dance-theatre musical interpretation of the Bicolano epic, “Ibalon,” adapted for the stage by prolific playwright Rody Vera and directed by Tuxqs Rutaquio with Carol Bello’s musical direction, and Alden Lugnasin’s choreography.

Entitled after Legazpi City’s week-long festivity, “Ibalong,” the musical tells the story of Handyong and his warriors who come to Bicol – formerly known as Ibalon – and wage war against beasts and monsters pillaging the land’s natural wealth. Handyong mightily battles creatures bearing a solitary eye and three throats, several winged sharks, and wild carabaos.

Whats the catch? How can it be that you are offering a place completely free for techies? - We have been in the Philippines for more than four (4) years already and we have charity institutions that we are currently funding without asking for anything in return. This is one way for me and Sally to also give something back to the Philippines since this country has been good to us for so many years. I also believe that the Philippine Geeks here in the Philippines would want to have a place to bring out their ideas and in the long run be funded for it and iZone-iHUB offers that.
Besides the free access to the facility, air conditioning, safety and security, coffee and tea what more can they expect from iZone-iHUB? - If they have ideas that they are more than willing to share to our advisors and to the Board of Directors, then we will gladly listen to it and be honest enough to tell them if this project or idea has any monetary value or if its a dead end. We are more than willing to fund a project that we believe would make the person who has the idea rich and successful not only in development but also in commercialization.
What would we expect from iZone-iHUB? - We will have a monthly, quarterly and yearly prize for the best ideas that will come up from iZone-iHUB, and the prizes can even range from a trip to Boracay, Expensive techy gadgets or best part about it is a vacation at my Castle in Scotland.

Yehuda Berg has been immersed in the study of Kabbalah since birth. Son of Kabbalist Rav Berg, Yehuda Berg is next in the lineage of a millennia-old tradition of Spiritual Masters that his father inherited from his teacher.

Bing Lao's Writing Workshop

As one of the country’s most prolific screenwriters, Armando “Bing” Lao has been honored by just about every award-winning body in the country, including the Film Academy of the Philippines, the FAMAS and the Gawad Urian.

Best known for the screenplays of acclaimed films such as Jeffrey Jeturian’s “Pila Balde” and “Kubrador”, Brillante Mendoza’s “Kinatay”, Chito Roño’s “Suntok sa Buwan” and “La Vida Rosa”, Emmanuel H. Borlaza’s “Oras Oras, Araw Araw”, and his own directorial debut “Biyaheng Lupa”, Lao recently won the Special Jury Prize for his second film, “Ad Ignorantiam”, in the New Wave Section of the recent Metro Manila Film Festival.

“Lao is more than just a screenwriter as his scripts are written with directorial vision. Instead of merely constructing the narrative and characters and leaving the rest of the creative process to the director, Lao immerses into the entire filmmaking process, stamping each and every one of the films which he had a part in with auteurial integrity,” wrote noted film critic Oggs Cruz in his review of “Biyaheng Langit”.

Like colleague Ricky Lee, Lao is also very generous when it comes to imparting his expertise and wisdom to budding screenwriters. Next month, he will hold a six-session scriptwriting workshop based on his upcoming manual, “Found Story”.

“The ‘Found Story’ workshop is a powerful tool not only as a writer allowing one to learn the fundamentals and new ways of crafting the narrative. It allows participants to be better practitioners in their respective crafts—director, producer, editor, production designer, cinematographer, actor, documentarist, and educator, to name a few,” Henry Burgos, 2012 MMFF Best Original Story winner for “Thy Womb”, told InterAksyon.

“It’s simply because the learning principles are universal, profound and practical at the same time. Also, the application of the knowledge is not limited to alternative film, but to other genres as well. You’ll be trained to think critically, viewing the film narrative elements in their proper context,” he further elaborated.

In paying tribute to Lao whom he considers a mentor and inspiration for his films, internationally acclaimed filmmaker Brillante Mendoza added that the workshop participants will benefit immensely from Lao’s wealth of experience and unique style as well.

“The workshoppers will be introduced to the school of ‘Found Story’ which is a very relevant and useful tool to alternative filmmaking and most especially to independent filmmakers,” the “Thy Womb” director told InterAksyon.
For his part, Lao himself places emphasis on an out-of-the-box approach in training his participants how to think critically and how they can apply it to their future screenplays.

“Critical thinking is the ability to see the invisible. What it is that you see that other people don’t see?” he asked.
