Rep. Reynolds Michael “Mike” Tan filed House Bill No. 9819, known as the Healthy Food Marketing Environment Bill.The proposed legislation aims to mandate front-of-pack warning labels (FOPWL) on pre-packaged food and regulate child-directed marketing of “unhealthy” products high in fat, sugar, and salt. Similarly, Rep. Maria Rachel Arenas and Rep. Jaime Fresnedi have also introduced House Bills No. 10886 and 11123, respectively, under the same bill title. Representatives Steve Solon, Salvador Pleyto, and Eleanor Bulut-Begtang, also joined this effort and co-authored the Bills.
The proposed law was filed to protect Filipinos, especially children, from obesity, and related non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, by creating a healthy food environment where they can make informed dietary choices.
