World Trade Center, Buendia, Metro Manila --- Last 19th to 21st (Fri to Sun) of May, 2017, IFEX Philippines was held at the World Trade Center. “IFEX” stands for International Food Exhibit / Exposition. This is actually the 11th year or 11th edition that IFEX was organized. IFEX is “Asia’s ethnic food & ingredients show.” This year’s IFEX is actually a project as well as is being pushed by ASEAN. It bares the slogan “Taste ASEAN.”
Exhibitors & exhibit-watchers trooped to the World Trade Center for the Philippines’ major food exhibit, IFEX, in a span of 3 days.
Today Online’s correspondent was invited to the exposition on the last day, the 3rd day, which is Sunday, 21st of May. During Today Online’s visit aside from the usual booths, the following special activities were prepared and held:

Forum on DOST Programs and Services to MSMEs”
There are just so much products exhibited in IFEX. However, Today Online would like to feature only 3 outstanding booths / companies.
The first is Fisher Farms Incorporated whose booth was awarded at IFEX the Katha Award for Best Product in Marine & Meat Category. They were also awarded as the Best Booth. They are actually an aquaculture company. What Today Online enjoyed is their free taste of “Kielbasa Fish Sausage” & “All Natural Fish Frankfurter Sausage” (both are just different flavours of bangus).
The 2nd booth that Today Online would like to feature is Marca Piña Soy Sauce. Marca Piña Soy Sauce is distributed in all major supermarkets even sari-sari stores. They offer various variants of their product such as a so called Marca Piña Calamansi Soy Sauce which is already Toyomansi for siomai.
The final booth that Today Online want to feature is Tropicana Food Products. Their primary product is Virgin Coconut Oil.
Today Online was given a free taste of a cone of ice cream made of coconut milk.
Their other products include VCO (virgin coconut oil) lip balm, vco ointments, vco lotion & vco mouth and nasal spray.
The Dept. of Science and Technology (DOST) Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDC) was also an exhibitor at IFEX.
The people at the DOST booth explained to Today Online the technology produced by DOST to create IMPROVED TABLEA. They invented a prototype machine that can process cocoa better than commercially produced chocolate. DOST is actually selling the technology. They are attracting investors that will invest in the machine and perhaps improve it.
DOST was able to produce technology not only for IMPROVED TABLEA, but also for the following: powdered egg white, vacuum-fried okra, spray-dried bile juice, labuyo-based chili oil, among others.
IFEX served the function of business-to-business networking --- connecting buyers to sellers --- whether local or foreigh.
Finally, Today Online would like to end with a high note: their ACAI BERRY ICE CREAM is amazing.
