Tuguegarao City, Philippines—Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 (R2) joined the 122nd Labor Day celebration spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on May 1 at SM City Tuguegarao. DTI R2 Director Leah Pulido-Ocampo served as the keynote speaker for the opening program.
During her speech, RD Ocampo highlighted the vital role of the Filipino workforce in building a new Philippines and emphasized the need to champion their rights and welfare. She also highlighted the recent strides Region 2 has made over the past year in creating an environment conducive to business growth and development, which led to increased employment opportunities.
RD Ocampo reaffirmed the commitment of the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board, comprised of the DTI, DOLE, and National Economic and Development Authority, to protect the rights of each Filipino worker.
The event received full support from the DTI R2 Cagayan Director Henry O. Conel, Jr. and other collaborating line agencies.
This year’s Labor Day celebration featured various activities, including a government service caravan; the Kadiwa ng Pangulo para sa Manggagawa; Business/Trade and Diskwento Fairs; the distribution of Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers program payout, and a skills/technology demo display by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
The DOLE also organized a job fair with over 300 local and overseas employment agencies, offering on-the-spot hiring of aspiring applicants and job seekers.
Workers from R2 received medical services from various medical institutions, including the Doctors Medical Center, Holy Infant Hospital, Ace Medical Center, and the Ronald P. Guzman Medical Center.
Beyond generating employment opportunities, the event also benefitted 18 local government units from the Cagayan province with financial support totaling PHP 18 million from DOLE R2.
