5th Dead Sea Marathon Friday, February 2

The 5th Dead Sea Marathon will take place as planned, in the shadow of the war, on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the Ein Bokek hotel area. Thousands will run on the body of water, bordered with Jordan, at the lowest place in the world.  

The 2024 marathon season was affected this year by the conflict and the cancellation of other marathons in Israel, but the registration for the Dead Sea Marathon races is in full swing. The marathon at the lowest place in the world - the Dead Sea, will start on Friday, 02.02.2024, at Ein Bokek Beach in the Tamar Municipality of the Dead Sea. 

Currently, the preparations are continuing for the Dead Sea Marathon, which will offer the participants a unique running experience in areas where it is not possible to run during the year, next to ancient salt crystals, against the enchanting desert landscapes and on the eastern border of Israel.  

All races will be launched on new tracks in the new boardwalk section and on embankments that have never been included in the race. During the run, the participants will climb the border embankment with Jordan, which allows a view of Israel's eastern border. The routes are extremely flat, with minimum asphalt and maximum scenery.  

Competition tracks:  

• 5 km - a comfortable running and walking route for families and those who are experienced in the running experience.  

• 10 km - running on the new southern promenade, and to the embankment into the sea.  

• 21.1 km half marathon - a fast and flat course, the track is in memory of Giora and Tomer Ron deceased, sons of Ein Gedi.  

• 42 km marathon - running around the coast of the southern Dead Sea.  

• 50 km Ultra Marathon - Israel Championship for 50 km.  

Cash prizes will be awarded to the overall winners in the four long legs.  

The route is mostly on tight and flat gravel terrain, on some of the routes they will be running for the first time. The event will be secured by the security forces and the police. The race is held with the assistance and support of the Ministry of Tourism, Israel Chemicals Company, the Dead Sea Drainage Authority, and the Dead Sea Preservation Government Company Ltd.
