Fair Trade Enterprise Launches It's Domestic Line

Quezon City – For more than four (4) decades, Community Crafts Association of the Philippines, Inc. (CCAP) and its subsidiary CCAP Fairtrade for Development, Inc. (CCAP Fairtrade) have assisted marginalized handicraft producers through product design and development and exporting their handicrafts to Fair Trade buyers abroad. This year, CCAP and CCAP Fairtrade launches their local brand of export quality handicrafts called Likhang Atin by CCAP Fairtrade. This is another innovation by one of the longest running social enterprises in the country. “We called it Likhang Atin because we feel very strongly the need to emphasize the great, yet local, skill and talent that went into each and every product that we will be rolling out for our domestic line,” says Voltaire P. Alferez, Executive Director of both companies. “The products are proudly community-based products produced using local knowledge and skill as well as local resources,” he adds. Likhang Atin by CCAP Fairtrade products were crafted following Fair Trade principles which seeks to uphold the dignity of labor, women empowerment, child protection, environmental protection, among others. Fair Trade is an international movement seeking to address oppressive labor practices, unfair compensation and abusive treatment of workers particularly of women and children. CCAP and CCAP Fairtrade are members of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), the international network of Fair Trade advocates. “We hope that the local market would appreciate and patronize export-quality handicrafts that use environment-friendly materials and processes and at the same time empower women, protect children and give livelihood to the communities that support them,” says Mr. Alferez.
