7 Tips On How To Win Every Argument

By Stephen Key | Entrepreneur
Entrepreneurs are passionate people. We want to be heard. But often, knowing when to shut up can benefit you immensely. Cultivating your ability to hold your tongue is important.
Make no mistake, this is something I still struggle with every day. But after twenty years of wishing I’d just kept quiet that one time -- here's my advice:
1. Remember, it’s not personal. It’s business. A few years ago, I sued a major toy company who I thought had infringed on one of my patented technologies. Looking back, I think we could have settled the dispute quickly if cooler heads had prevailed. But I became emotional and so did they. The conflict ended up in federal court after dragging on for three years, which took an enormous toll on me. It's best not to make decisions when you're emotional. Step back and ask yourself: Is this the best course of action or am I just upset right now?
2. Pick up the phone. It’s always easier to miscommunicate over email. You’ll strengthen your relationships by clarifying what you and the person you're in contact with really mean simply by picking up the phone. I have misinterpreted what people have written to me in emails on many occasions. When it comes to sensitive issues in particular -- talk it out; don't just email.
3. Hit “delete. ” The idea that anyone can win an argument over the Internet is laughable. For whatever reason, some people enjoy using their anonymity to be rude and insulting. It’s taken me many years, but I think the best way to respond to my haters is by not saying anything at all. Even if you’re calm, collected and reasonable, whatever you write will only fuel the fire. There are just too many people who get a kick out of riling others up. If you choose not to engage, you’ll be surprised how quickly the conversation dies. And, try to have a sense of humor! Usually, I’m enraged when I first read hateful comments, but later I find them kind of funny.
4. Let go of the need to have the last word. It’s better to fly under the radar. You may feel great about getting in one last jab, but more likely than not, someone else is going to remember your flippant comment long after you do and it will come back to haunt you. It’s just not worth it. I was surprised to hear Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks and an investor on Shark Tank, laugh at the SEC on TV and in the media after he was accused of insider trading and found not guilty. That didn’t seem wise. If they had an eye on him before, well, they probably still do now. Gloating is unattractive.
5. Embrace the idea that sometimes, less is more. We’ve all been in meetings where someone asks a simple question and the person in charge goes on and on unnecessarily in response. Remember that most questions can be answered simply. Remind yourself. Everyone you work with will appreciate your ability to be concise. And frankly, it’s also polite. We like the sound of our own voices more than other people do.
6. Realize that certain opinions are best left unspoken. Yes, everyone is entitled to an opinion. But that doesn’t mean we need to offer all of ours up. The other day, Martha Stewart declared that she doesn’t think bloggers are experts. Okay, Martha. Sure, that’s your opinion. But I think that was foolish of her, because I’m guessing there are many, many bloggers who help promote her lifestyle brand. What purpose did undermining them serve her? I’m not sure. But it may end up hurting her business. She needs bloggers and influencers as much as everyone else does to push her brand.
7. Get comfortable with awkward silences. When it comes to the art of negotiation, I’ve learned a simple truth: Never speak first. After I explicitly state what it is I want, I clam up. When we’re uncomfortable with an awkward silence, it’s tempting to fill it quickly, but if you do, you might end up saying something without thinking it through. I’ve discovered that the first person to speak usually loses the argument. So make your point, be confident and force yourself to wait for a response.
I hope these tips help you as much as they’ve helped me.

How To Help Your Kids Connect To Books They Read

By Amy Mascott
Often one of the reasons our kids aren't willing to finish a book is because they say, "It's boring! I can't understand it. The characters are strange. It doesn't mean anything to me."

But perhaps one of the reasons our kids aren't into the book is because they aren't connecting properly. Or connecting at all.

When readers make connections to the texts they read, they're more likely to understand what they read, remember what they read, and enjoy what they read. It's a fact.

Though it sounds like helping kids make connections to their texts is complicated and involved, it's really not.  Strong readers make connections every time they read, and they do it without batting an eye. Connecting is natural and habitual for strong readers. They connect to characters and events in texts; they connect to settings, themes, and messages in texts.

There are three main ways that readers make connections to texts:
they make connections between the text and themselves or their own life;
they make connections between the text and another text they've read;
they make connections between the text and what they know about the world around them.

How do we bring this connection stuff home for our kids? How do we gently urge them into making connections so that they become stronger readers? Simple.

Whether they like the book or not isn't relevant. You can initiate the connection conversation any time you'd like, any day of the week.

Consider using the following phrases to help your kids make text-to-self connections with what they read:

Oh, it looks like Arthur is really trying hard to train his pet, Pal. What kinds of things do you remember doing to help us train Brady?
Hey!  Chrysanthemum loves her name now just like you love your special name.
Harry is so nervous for his first day at Hogwarts. I know you felt just as nervous when you started your new school.

The following ideas will help your child make text-to-text connections:
Wow! We just read a book that took place in France like this book does. Can you remember the title?
Oh boy. Brother and Sister Bear are not doing a good job of taking care of their things.  Think back to the book that Nanny read you this weekend. Who else did you read about who was having a hard time being responsible?
What did we read about in "Time: for Kids" last month about bats? Where do they find most of their food?

And helping your children make text-to-world connections will also help them become stronger readers:

What do you remember about how people get around in big cities?  Can you imagine how it might feel for Trixie to live in her New York City apartment?
This dog looks so much like President Obama's dog, Bo. What ways are they alike?
Remember how some towns require that people recycle with those big blue bins? Looks like they're doing kind of the same thing in this book.

Connections are easy once you get started, and your kids will love to share with you the connections they make on their own!

How do you help your kids connect to the books they read? Tell us about it on the Scholastic Parents Facebook page.

3 Types of Stress, How To Help Kids Cope Up With

By Liss Mariano, M.D., MOMStoday and Health Today
In today’s fast-paced world, adults often wish for the good old days when they were carefree children, and didn’t have to worry about work, bills or seemingly soap-opera social lives.
Unfortunately, children now live in the same world we do today – a time that puts a premium on achievements, material wealth and networking, rather than recreation and honest-to-goodness quality time. This means that just like us, children have plenty of things to worry about.

Causes of child stress abound.
These include:
changes in the family structure, like a new baby
parents’ separation
academic pressure
peer pressure
physical abuse
3 types of stress
To better understand child stress, the American National Scientific Council on the Developing Child has classified it into three types.
Positive stress
The daily, short-lived challenges that push a child to develop his strengths. For example, an examination can teach a child that studying well can lead to high grades. This leads him to develop a sense of discipline and self-worth.
Tolerable stress
More intense, but short-lived. Children may have difficulty coping with it, but can do so when helped by caregivers. An example is an unexpected illness in the family. When a child is able to deal with this type of stress, it can also benefit him. For example, a child can learn that it’s important to take care of someone who is sick.
Toxic stress
This can result from intense, prolonged, negative experiences like child abuse. Sometimes, toxic stress can also happen when a child experiences multiple tolerable stressors, but has no one to help him cope with them. Toxic stress is the most severe type and should be addressed quickly.
Effects of toxic stress

Instead of building character, toxic stress can lead to:
Faulty brain circuitry and smaller brain development
Immune system suppression
Poor school performance
Depression, anxiety and suicide attempts
Risk-taking behavior in teenagers, like smoking and sexual intercourse
Types of toxic stress reactions
To prevent the negative effects of child stress, parents need to know what is happening in their child’s life. But because young children cannot verbalize how they feel to adults, they show their stress through their behavior.
These stress reactions can be classified as: regressive, somatic or acting-out.
Regressive behavior occurs when a child acts younger than his age. This includes clinginess, thumb-sucking, baby-talk or bedwetting.
Common somatic signs include tummy aches, headaches or a pounding heart.
Acting-out behaviour includes bullying, shouting or temper tantrums.

Thumb-sucking may be a sign of stress.
If your child shows any of these, then it’s a good time to step in and find out what’s wrong.

Children can learn to handle stress effectively with the help of their parents or other supportive adults. By learning positive strategies form their caregivers, they can cope with stress better.

Teach your kids to cope with challenges

Depending in your child’s inclinations, he may need to play a sport, write, draw or just talk to someone to vent his fears and frustrations.
Tips for confidantes helping children de-stress include:
Let children know that it is all right to feel angry, sad or lonely.
Help them relax. Teach them stress busters like deep breathing, reciting nursery rhymes, making animal sounds when they are mad or asking for hugs.
Teach children how to express themselves. It can be a game like "Finish the sentence," e.g, "When I see my baby brother, I feel ...”

For younger children, storytelling is a great way to explore feelings and impart good coping strategies.
Find time to talk to them or spend quality time together.
Promote a positive environment. Praise children for what they do well.
Set a good example. Watching a parent cope effectively is the best way for children to learn how to handle stress.
If changes in behavior persist, or when they cause school or family problems, it’s time to seek professional help.

A pediatrician, school counselor or child psychiatrist can help your children become the best stress busters they can be for themselves. After all, this is what growing up is about: dealing with stressful situations with a measure of grace and understanding.

My recent readings, among other things, prompted me to write about the relationship of pornography and a person’s brain. Some of the things I learned from the book “Surfing for God: Discovering the Divine Desire beneath Sexual Struggle” by Michael John Cusick are what I want to share here in this article.
Understanding the compulsive use of pornography is not complete without taking into consideration the physical changes or effects that porn has on a person. Recent discoveries in neuroscience have helped in trying to understand and treat various kinds of addictions and psychological disorders as well as the pursuit of good physical and emotional health. The discoveries, when summed up, come to a conclusion that our brains are highly changeable. In relation to pornography, which is one of the behavioral addictions, I learned that viewing porn regularly affects the brain just like drugs – in all major aspects.
Sexual desire and arousal do not simply begin in the genitals – they begin in the brain. When changes happen in the part of the brain related to sex, it also changes a person’s sexual desire and the ability to choose how to act on it.
In the brain is a chemical neurotransmitter dopamine. It is the gas that fuels the desire engine and it involves both anticipation and expectation. It is the “got to have it” or “I want it” molecule. When we imagine a good experience we had like eating at a restaurant that serves your favorite dish, shopping for a new gadget that you have been looking forward to purchase, or in relation to this article, having sex or looking at a porn site, the brain releases dopamine and our senses then call out to us and we hear Beenie Man singing loudly, “Gimme, gimme, gimmme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme…”. The more intense the experience being imagined or being anticipated, the more dopamine is released in the brain.
The problem is, pornography can overstimulate a person’s brain. Its power and intensity, especially the pornography available in our time, internet pornography particularly, as against pornography many decades ago, create a very high level of stimulation – something that a person’s brain was not intended to experience. Because of this, the brain of a person regularly using pornography can change and shape itself to resemble neuropathways similar to those of an alcoholic or drug addict. On my next article, I will write the four ways that internet pornography overstimulates the brain.

The Philippine Transit App Challenge Launch!

Ten (10) pre-selected finalists for the country’s first national transport app development competition will present and demonstrate their apps during the hack-at-home event’s awarding ceremony tomorrow, 14 October 2013, at the University of the Philippines campus in Quezon City.

The Philippine Transit App Challenge, launched by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) alongside the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Cebu City Government in early July this year, netted seventeen (17) entries from which the 10 finalists were chosen.

These apps focus on empowering commuters to choose the fastest, cheapest, or most convenient commuting options in Metro Manila based on DOTC’s Philippine Transit Information Service (PTIS) database. Some of them target specific market segments, such as tourists who are exploring the city.

The Latest Tech Innovations At Digital Life Congress and Expo!

In the last decade, the pace at which mobile phones spread globally is unmatched in the history of technology. In 2003, 61% of the world's population has mobile cell signal and in 2010, 90% of the world is mobile phone ready. There are now over 6 billion mobile subscriptions worldwide, which means that about 75% of the world now has access to a mobile phone; and 77% of these subscriptions come from developing countries such as the Philippines. It is this technological revolution that powers the objectives of the Digital LiFE Congress and Expo 2013.

Digital LiFE Congress and Expo 2013 will debut as an annual conference and exposition event that is unlike anything that has been experienced before. It will be a huge event that will showcase some of the latest tech innovations to hit our shores. This will happen on November 14 to 16 at the World Trade Center in Pasay city!

Contract for Puerto Princesa Semi-Permannet Airport Terminal Building Awarded By DOTC

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) awarded on 30 September 2013 infrastructure contracts for the execution of various civil works at four (4) airports in the Visayas and Mindanao.

The contract for the Semi-Permanent Airport Terminal Project at the Puerto Princesa Airport was awarded to D.G. Sarmenta Construction in the amount of P 21,495,653.43, which is lower than the bid ceiling of P 22,682,431.07.

“This will improve passenger convenience by allowing the airport to meet increasing tourist arrivals in the meantime that long-term upgrades are being done,” said DOTC Spokesperson Migs Sagcal. “We are aiming for this to be up by summer next year.”
Other improvement contracts were also awarded for the following projects:

The Dipolog Airport Development Project was awarded to V.T. Lao Construction in the amount of P 26,695,751.89. The bid ceiling was originally set at P 34,256,439.56. The project involves the construction of river protection and runway strip grade correction.
The Zamboanga Airport Development Project was awarded to Advance Tech Construction & Trading Corporation in the amount of P 5,738,808.80. The bid ceiling was originally set at P 6,019,216.26. The project involves creek de-siltation; de-clogging of box culvert; and construction of a steel strainer.
The Catarman Airport Development Project was awarded to Vesa Engineering and Construction in the amount of P 7,520,088.88. The bid ceiling was originally set at P 7,563,953.07. It covers asphalt overlay of the runway and construction of the perimeter fence.

The transport agency has saved over P 9-Million from these projects, which the government can now use to accelerate spending in order to boost the country’s economy through the Disbursement Allocation Program (DAP).

Caritas Manila's 60th Year: Buy and Give Expo At Trinoma!

It's beter to give than to receive, is what i've learned after attending Caritas bloggers event, October 7, 2013 at Pandacan Manila.

And for 60 years now, Caritas Manila is doing just that, helping the poor and marginalize, through education, livelihood training and other programs, that would empower them towards total human development, to build a caring and sharing communities amongst all, just as what Christ have exemplified with love and justice.

And this coming November 29 up to December 1, they will hold its anniversary expo in the activity center of Ayala Trinoma Mall in Quezon City.

Celebrating 60 Years of Living Faith in its Social Mission, this year’s anniversary expo will feature and showcase products made by social entrepreneurs via Caritas Manila’s own social enterprise: Caritas Margins and Segunda Mana.
This event aims to raise funds to help sustain the pro-poor programs of Caritas Manila. The products sold in the BUY and GIVE EXPO are made by the poor communities and from the marginalized sector currently being supported by Caritas Manila. Art pieces are made by residents from National Bilibid Prison, gift items, accessories, and personal care products made by urban poor families, pre-loved items and inventories from our benefactors and corporate partners are just some of the products showcased in this Expo.

Dubbed as BUY and GIVE because for every product you BUY, you actually GIVE to someone in need. These are the 3 ways: 1st – the item one buys gives income to the producer of the product from the poor community/marginalized sector; 2nd – part of the revenues will be plowed back to help sustain Caritas Manila’s pro-poor programs, specifically on Skills and Livelihood Training and Youth Servant Leadership and Education Programs; and 3rd – buying the product is giving to oneself or for someone else to appreciate.

Good finds at reasonable prices and helping uplift other peoples’ lives…come to Caritas Manila’s BUY & GIVE EXPO.

UNICEF Kicks Off Trick-or-Treat Nationwide Year 2 Celebrating National Children’s Month!

The Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Superheroes campaign brings special meaning to Halloween by giving children an opportunity to learn the value of helping other children in need.  Instead of asking for candies and treats, children can collect money in a special Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF box.  This year’s Trick-or-Treat focuses on children affected by the conflict in Zamboanga. The funds raised will help them go back to school, give them access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities, and ensure their good health and nutritional status.

“UNICEF relies entirely on voluntary donations to fund its work for children in the Philippines and worldwide.  With Toy Kingdom’s support, we hope to raise more funds and awareness on how children can help other children in Zamboanga through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.  The situation in Zamboanga profoundly affected a large number of children so every contribution counts and everyone can do something to help,” said UNICEF Country Representative Tomoo Hozumi.

The grand launch party held in SM Megamall Event Center on October 5 featured fun games, superhero appearances and a special performance by UNICEF National Ambassador Gary Valenciano.

Dubbed as the original Kids Helping Kids® campaign, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is celebrated by many children and families around the world and has since raised more than $170 million to help children in need globally. Launched in the Philippines last year, the program raised over P400,000 and distributed over 4,000 donation kits in malls and participating schools.

Register for your free Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF donation kits at all Toy Kingdom branches nationwide from October 1 to 31 or until supplies last.  All donations can be turned over to any SM Bill Payment counter (SM Department Store, SM Supermarket, SM Hypermarket, and Savemore) nationwide.  Children and families who turn in their donations before November 30 will receive a certificate of appreciation and surprise gift via mail!

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF 2013 is made possible through Toy Kingdom, SM Megamall, SM Supermalls, SM Cares, Philippine Star, Summit Media, MagnaVision, Media Pool, Sumo Sam and Krispy Kreme. Participating Toy Kingdom branches include SM Aura, SM Bacolod, SM Bacoor, SM Baguio, SM Batangas, SM Cagayan de Oro, SM Cebu, SM Davao, SM Fairview, SM General Santos, SM Lanang, SM Iloilo, SM Lucena, SM Makati, SM Marilao, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM Pampanga, SM North Edsa, The Podium, SM Southmall, V-Mall and Lucky Chinatown Mall.

Gloc-9 rises with “Magda” from Liham at Lihim

We might say that Pinoy rap is going through a revival. What we must know is how different Gloc-9's kind of rap remains, regardless.

At the heart of Gloc-9's icon is the fact of his creativity. This is a rapper who dares writes songs from nation, trailing an eye on the things we fail to see, listening to words no one else hears.
If the first single off his new album Liham at Lihim is any indication, then Gloc-9 has again raised the bar for songwriting in general, Pinoy rap in particular.

A collaboration with rock icon Rico Blanco, “Magda” is Gloc-9's storytelling at its best. For one thing, he doesn't take on the persona of Magda; instead he speaks as Ernesto, telling the story of Magda – the little of it that he knows. For another, Magda's story doesn't unfold easily, where many things are left unsaid, and much of what is truth happens in a letter. This is also why Gloc-9 thinks “Magda” the best choice for a carrier single, given the CD's title.

The Biggest Scam In The History Of Mankind - Hidden Secrets of Money

You are about to learn one of the biggest secrets in the history of the world…it’s a secret that has huge effects for everyone who lives on this planet. Most people can feel deep down that something isn’t quite right with the world economy, but few know what it is. Gone are the days where a family can survive on just one paycheck…every day it seems that things are more and more out of control, yet only one in a million understand why. You are about to discover the system that is ultimately responsible for most of the inequality in our world today. The powers that be DO NOT want you to know about this, as this system is what has kept them at the top of the financial food-chain for the last 100 years…

Learning this will change your life, because it will change the choices that you make. If enough people learn it, it will change the world…because it will change the system . For this is the biggest Hidden Secret Of Money. Never in human history have so many been plundered by so few, and it’s all accomplished through this…The Biggest Scam In The History Of Mankind.

So if currency is based on what we as people value then why not value people, hence the barter system= problem solved do away with the monetary system entirely as Gene Roddenberry imagined as human potential, no money= no poverty, no want = no need, every person contributes to society, and can focus on personal development not just scraping buy and paying bills.

If you have never studied economics, this really is a must watch, to understand why our money, and banking systems are bogus

Jay Be · Design Software Engineer at Concur Technologies
The monetary system, is a scam, a fraud, a Ponzi scheme doomed to collapse in the near futur!
Private and central banks create money out of thin air. They only create what we call the "principal" but not the interests that need to be paid back as well! So it's mathematically impossible for everybody to pay back all their debts.
That's why the banks have to keep printing money over and over again, to cover the loans already existing the money system!
If they stop printing money the system will collapse because they won't be enough money in circulation.
If they keep printing money as they've been doing, they will continue to devalue the currency, eventually the currency will collapse and will follow hyperinflation + runaway prices. Printing more money will only make the situation worse!
If you look back at history, the Roman empire collapsed exactly the same way... They debased their currency by minting coins with less silver in the coins, than the face value of the coins indicated.
At this point the only thing people can do to prepare the inevitable, is to get into things that have real value. Fiat currency worth nothing.

.....Just do the math here, the video talks about how the current (all) central (FED) banking systems are corrupt, a ponzi scheme on steroids, leading to wars, deaths, and a TOTAL enslavement into debt. BUT IT DOES NOT CALL FOR ANY ARRESTS, or anyone to face charges for the corruption, OR AN IMMEDIATE CLOSE DOWN OF THE PONZI SCHEME, that as I type here is KILLING AND DESTROYING OUR NATIONS, OUR SOCIETIES, OUR LIVES.. ??? These criminals are murders, and what, we are just suppose to evolve their current rancid criminal system into a global version that will be more "fair".. ARE YOU F'NIG KIDDING ME.. It's All In The Cell And Enzacta!

I have had the chance to learn about this important things on stem cells, at Enzacta. It sort of overwhelmed me, when the speaker Mr. Rod Brozas talk about as to how pollutions and its growing danger threatens us everyday, that causes a lot of known and unknown diseases and deaths. We cannot escape these reality and facts.

And Its enlightening to know that there are people who are researching and discovering as to why and how diseases came to be and what needs to be done to overcome them. Thus, coming up with products that could help us face up our problems in more ways than one, not just health.

Mr Rod says that it’s all in the cells. And each to his/her own cells or DNA. Multi organ management vs. one cellular recovery. Find more here:

At the event we were given, Alfa energy drink, coffee, grape juice, and Hfi tablet. Aamazing how just with one HFI tablet I took before sleep, when I wake up the following morning, felt my body was cleansed and energized. At my age now, I know ive some diseases which could been result of my bad lifestyle when I was still young and dont know much. That energy Ive got and experience after I drink the Alfa energy drink and HFI tablet, reminds me of  my younger days then, full of zest.  And im just thankful to have known these products to avoid spending so much on hospitals and medicines, and extend  life with purpose and quality.

Would definitely share this to my love ones.
